PSG leave Liverpool-linked Barcola and Mbaye out of Rennes squad

Paris Saint-Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye remain subjects of Liverpool interest this summer as new Reds manager Andoni Iraola looks to bolster his forward options

Bradley Barcola appears likely to depart PSG this summer

Both Barcola and Mbaye have been omitted from PSG’s matchday party for their Ligue 1 fixture against Rennes on Sunday. The Parisian club are said to be seeking a total of €204million for the two players.

This situation arises after the French and European champions secured the signings of winger Mika Godts from Ajax and Spanish World Cup winner Ferran Torres from Barcelona. Luis Enrique’s squad now contains considerable attacking depth, particularly on the flanks, which could work in Iraola’s favour.

Both Barcola and Mbaye were excluded from PSG’s squad for their Super Cup loss to Lens last weekend. Now neither features in the line-up for the league opener at Rennes this evening.

Barcola is understood to be eager to join Iraola’s project, though PSG’s £130m asking price presents an obstacle. French reports suggest an offer in the £111m to £128m range might be enough to complete a transfer.

Mbaye represents a more affordable alternative for the Merseyside club. Recent coverage indicates the young forward could be available for £30m to £45m.

French media have also reported that Liverpool have agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old on a five-year contract. Both players would give Iraola’s side a significant attacking lift following Mohamed Salah’s departure.

Barcola contributed 13 goals and seven assists across all competitions last season as PSG claimed the domestic league title and Champions League glory. Youngster Mbaye managed three goals and two assists in 29 outings for the capital club.

Enrique declined to comment on Barcola’s situation ahead of the UEFA Super Cup earlier this month. He indicated that he prefers not to discuss individual players, as he finds it risky to comment positively or negatively about any player. He stated that his focus remains on his own team.

Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle includes at least 215 live Premier League clashes across the 2026/27 season, with more than 1,500 games from the EFL and beyond, plus F1, golf and darts.

This introductory offer saves £384 compared to the standard price, with every package also providing 100 regular channels alongside free Netflix and discovery+ subscriptions.

Iraola, who took over at Anfield recently, has made clear his desire for additional wide players. The 44-year-old identified specific needs, particularly on the wing, where he believes the squad lacks sufficient players capable of filling those roles. He expressed that the club must remain open-minded in the market and consider situations that could strengthen the team. He clarified that signing a player simply because of a positional need is not the approach. Instead, the focus is on improving the overall squad. He acknowledged that the team already possesses strong players, so improvement requires acquiring players of a specific caliber.
