Barcola continues to feature in conversations about Liverpool’s potential forward signings

With the summer transfer period entering its final days, Barcola remains with PSG but speculation about a move to Anfield persists.
Andoni Iraola has been credited with interest in several wide attacking players this summer, even after securing Victor Munoz for the Reds. With Mohamed Salah departing and Cody Gakpo drawing attention from other clubs, Barcola’s name has remained in the mix – particularly after their initial target Yan Diomande opted for Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old demonstrated his abilities at the World Cup, playing a role in France’s journey to the semi-finals. This came after another successful Champions League campaign, during which he provided the assist for Ousmane Dembele’s decisive goal when PSG secured victory at Anfield in the quarter-finals.
PSG have bolstered their attacking options this summer, signing Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Mika Godts. What this means for Barcola’s future remains unclear but here is an overview of the current situation.
PSG’s asking price
Despite generating more than £130m from selling Goncalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in this summer, PSG have not lowered their demands for Barcola. According to The Athletic, they are seeking £145m for a player they acquired from Lyon for just under £40m in 2023.
They will likely highlight the winger’s contributions, with Barcola recording a goal or assist every 118 minutes for PSG. However, Liverpool are not expected to pursue a deal at that valuation.

Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle includes at least 215 live Premier League matches throughout the 2026/27 season, with more than 1,500 contests from the EFL and additional competitions, alongside F1, golf and darts.
This introductory offer provides a saving of £384 against the standard price, with all packages also including 100 regular channels alongside complimentary Netflix and discovery+ subscriptions.
The same Athletic report mentions Barcola’s teammate Ibrahim Mbaye as another possible Liverpool target. While interest in the Senegalese youngster has been explored, reports elsewhere suggesting an agreement on personal terms seems inaccurate.
Barcola’s position
While negotiations around the transfer fee may require work, the ECHO understands Barcola himself would be willing to join Liverpool. This could prove decisive, even if the Reds are forced to wait until the final moment.
Last summer, the club were willing to pursue Alexander Isak until the very end. The Swedish striker made his intentions clear about a move well before deadline day but it was not until the last possible moment that his £125m transfer was completed.
In early June, French manager Claude Le Roy indicated Barcola did not seem prepared to leave PSG. However, that was before the Ligue 1 champions spent £123m on new attacking players.

Luis Enrique’s stance
While we await a resolution, PSG manager Luis Enrique has shown reluctance to utilise Barcola. The winger was an unused substitute in the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa and was omitted completely from the Trophee des Champions squad against Lens, France’s equivalent of the Community Shield.
The Spanish coach stated he would discuss the transfer window once it has concluded. He departed the press conference without offering further details about Barcola or Mbaye, who was also absent from the squad.
Premier League clubs have until 11pm on September 1 to finalise their summer business. Ligue 1 clubs have an additional day to make signings, although this may not be a major consideration if PSG believe they have already secured the players they require.
