Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is joining an investment team at Liverpool

The group featuring Amazon magnate Jeff Bezos that has struck an investment deal with Liverpool will secure a stake of almost 40 percent in the club.

Friday saw confirmation that 1892 Holdings, an organisation headed by former Queens Park Rangers executive Amit Bhatia, will obtain a non-controlling ownership position in the Reds following talks with owners Fenway Sports Group.

Early indications suggested the deal covered between 30 percent and a third of the club, which has been valued at between $5billion and $6bn in the transaction.

However, the actual percentage is 38 percent, as first reported by The Athletic.

The investment amount, initially believed to be approximately £1.4bn, is instead set to be nearer £2bn.

While FSG maintains control of Liverpool, the agreement grants 1892 Holdings the right to buy a majority share within the next year.

However, there is no binding obligation for this to occur, with additional purchases not guaranteed under the terms.

The group includes contributions from Bhatia and the Mittal Family Trusts, the K5 Sports fund, where Amazon chief Bezos serves as the principal investor, and EE Capital, the private office of Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin and his spouse Elaine.

Subject to regulatory clearance, Bhatia will take on the role of Liverpool vice-chairman and join a newly enlarged board featuring Elaine Saverin from EE Capital and Bryan Baum representing K5 Sports.
