Swedish international forward Alexander Isak has been cautioned that Liverpool anticipate significant contributions following Mohamed Salah’s departure.
The 26-year-old endured a difficult introduction to life at Anfield, with injuries including a broken leg limiting him to just four goals across 22 appearances in all competitions during his inaugural season.
Three of those goals came in 14 Premier League matches.
However, Isak found the target during Saturday’s 2-2 fixture against Nottingham Forest, and former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock suggested the pressure now rests on the Swede to perform.
According to Warnock, speaking to Rekatochklart.com, the previous campaign presented inherent challenges due to fitness issues, compounded by the substantial investment made in acquiring the forward.
Liverpool supporters are now anticipating substantial results and goals, particularly given the void created by Salah’s exit.
Warnock noted that last season appeared destined to prove problematic from the outset.
Nevertheless, Isak displayed improved fitness, sharpness and hunger, with the former defender observing that the player appeared relieved knowing he had recovered full fitness.
Warnock expressed optimism that Isak could deliver this term, citing the forward’s acceptable World Cup showing as potentially beneficial to his confidence.
With Hugo Ekitike facing an extended absence due to an Achilles tendon problem and not expected to return until the new year, Warnock suggested Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola would eventually need to accommodate both forwards in the same side.
The challenge, according to Warnock, involves managing squad harmony.
