Jeremy Jacquet has spoken about his early-season experiences with Liverpool and France, expressing satisfaction with the opening phase of the campaign.
The central defender joined Liverpool from Stade Rennes during the summer transfer window in a deal reported at £55m, and has since settled into the side alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The two players have begun to develop what observers have described as an emerging partnership at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.
Liverpool are yet to taste defeat under Andoni Iraola, who took charge ahead of the new season, and the team has recorded clean sheets in each of their last three Premier League fixtures.
Jacquet’s performances at Anfield have also drawn attention in his native France, and he received his first senior international call-up when Zinedine Zidane selected him during the September/October international window.
The 21-year-old started consecutive matches as France recorded a 1-0 victory over Belgium before playing out a 0-0 draw with Italy.
Reflecting on his maiden senior international experience in an interview with Telefoot, Jacquet said playing in front of the supporters at international level had been a highly enjoyable surprise, noting that he had not anticipated the level of noise inside the stadium.
He added that his transition to Liverpool had also been rapid, and spoke enthusiastically about his partnership with Van Dijk, describing the experience of playing alongside the Dutch defender as fantastic and stating that few defenders in the modern game had reached Van Dijk’s level.
The 21-year-old has indicated that he is eager to build on his early contributions for both club and country as the season progresses.
