Barcola available but Gakpo still a doubt for Liverpool’s Fulham clash

Head coach Andoni Iraola addressed the media on Friday regarding the fitness situations of three of his forwards ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League fixture against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday.

Barcola is anticipated to be available for selection following his premature departure from Wednesday’s Champions League contest with Atletico Madrid.

The French winger was substituted during the second half after experiencing muscular cramping.

He did not participate in Thursday’s training session but is expected to take part in Friday’s final preparations.

Gakpo remains uncertain for the encounter with the west London club.

The Netherlands international was absent from the squad that secured a 2-1 league victory over the same Spanish opponents on the same ground last weekend.

The Dutch forward has contributed one goal and three assists across competitive fixtures this term.

Iraola also offered an update regarding long-term absentee Ekitike, the France international striker currently recovering from a serious Achilles problem.

Footage circulated this week showing the player engaged in ball work against a wall as part of his rehabilitation programme.

The head coach discussed the challenge of managing such extended injury comebacks and outlined an approximate timeframe for his return to full training.
