The Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez, who previously played for Liverpool, may be set to leave Al Hilal just one year after departing Anfield.
Nunez appears to have an uncertain future ahead of him, with speculation mounting about a potential reunion with Mohamed Salah. The South American departed Merseyside last year to join the Saudi Arabian side in a deal valued at £46million, but another transfer could materialise this transfer window.
The 27-year-old’s stint in the Saudi Pro League has been plagued by speculation, with persistent reports suggesting he could have departed back in January or may do so now in the summer.
In recent days, Turkish outfit Trabzonspor has emerged as a possible new club for Nunez, which would pair him once again with his former Reds colleague Salah.
The Egyptian departed Anfield earlier this summer and finalised a permanent switch to the Turkish Super Lig.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Trabzonspor and Nunez had already reached a transfer agreement, with the Turkish side preparing to negotiate with Al Hilal.
Reporter Yunus Emre Sel has indicated that Nunez still has unresolved matters with Al Hilal that are blocking the transfer from being finalised.
It remains uncertain at this stage whether a switch to Trabzonspor would come as a temporary arrangement or as a permanent signing.
Separate reporting from Sel has stated that Nunez is keen on joining Trabzonspor, but the aforementioned complications must be cleared up before any deal can progress.
During his World Cup involvement with Uruguay, Nunez featured in all three matches but failed to find the net as his nation exited at the group stage.
During his inaugural season in Saudi Arabia, Nunez made 24 appearances for Al Hilal and netted nine times, with his departure now appearing increasingly probable.
Across his Liverpool career, Nunez amassed 143 appearances and struck 40 goals, contributing significantly to the club’s Premier League triumph during his concluding season at Anfield.
