Yankuba Minteh could see his ambition fulfilled at Liverpool if a transfer to Anfield materialises this summer. The Brighton wide player was the target of a £50million offer from the Merseyside club earlier this week, though that bid was turned down.
The 22-year-old – currently unavailable due to a right leg problem – is understood to be eager to join the Premier League outfit should the two clubs reach an agreement. Brighton will participate in four competitions during the 2026/27 season, having secured a place in the UEFA Conference League play-off round following their eighth-place finish last term.
Despite European competition returning to the south coast, this is not the tournament the player has revealed he hopes to feature in. The south coast side remained in contention for Champions League qualification during the closing weeks of the previous campaign, before ultimately missing out.
Before their 1-0 loss to Leeds in their penultimate fixture, Minteh discussed his determination to feature in the tournament once more, having previously experienced it during his loan spell at Feyenoord during the 2023/24 season.
He stated that appearing in the competition again would be fantastic, given everyone watches it. He explained that everyone must perform their role effectively to secure the necessary position. He noted the squad remained composed, understanding two matches remained, and expressed enthusiasm following the victory over Wolves while emphasising the need to maintain concentration.
The Gambian made four European appearances for the Dutch club, netting his solitary goal in a 2-1 defeat at Celtic on their own ground.
A switch to Anfield would increase his Champions League opportunities, with the Reds set to compete in the tournament after finishing fifth under Arne Slot. Liverpool’s involvement also represents Andoni Iraola’s inaugural experience managing in European competition, though he will be working alongside the most decorated English club in continental history, having accumulated 14 major European trophies.
